This module provides an introduction to entrepreneurship, from basic principles and terminology thanks to case studies and newspaper articles. The highlights of this module will provide tourism business managers the necessary competencies to understand the entrepreneurship environment in rural areas. Additionally resources have been designed to give the knowledge on how to succeed with a start-up.
Case study 1: The Start-up Business
This document will start with the presentation of the first case study of the module, highlighting the start-up content with an interview with a successful entrepreneur – in adventure tourism.
Case study 2: The Business Plan
The second case study will do the follow up of the start-up contents, pushing the participants to engage with entrepreneurship. This case study focuses on the business plan construction and the ideas generation. The case study will reveal a case of a successful company in rural tourism – events planning.
Case study 3: Entrepreneurship Ecosystem
The third and last case study will wrap up the module contents with the entrepreneurship ecosystem contents – establishing the importance of the market needs to the business plan, and focus on the entrepreneurship environment for the development rural communities. This case study will focus on the importance of the market needs to start a new business, finding gaps.

The reflective assignments are meant to be a set of open questions you can reflect upon during the online part of the module. The goal is to related what you have learnt in the module ‘case studies with your professional practice. When you will next meet with your trainer and colleague you will have the opportunity to discuss this questions all together. You can also start discussing about them in the sharing platform, with your national and international colleagues!
The sharing platform is meant to be an experience sharing virtual place, where to discuss the the design and development of the touristic products, which are the output of this training course.
Your trainer will post a summary of the discussion you have in class at the end of each module about how the module supported you in the designing and development of the innovative touristic products. Furthermore, you can join your national colleague and keep in touch with them, during the online part of the module, and you can catch up with what is happening in the other countries involved in the project!
